Public Information Sessions - Designated Stops & Route Adjustments
Transpo will host two public information sessions to discuss the switch to designated bus stops and route adjustments due to the new two-way streets in downtown South Bend.
Transpo began the process of switching from a "flag-stop" system to a designated bus stop system in 2012. The designated stops will make Transpo more user-friendly, increase on-time performance, reduce fuel consumption and emissions while improving safety, service and the overall customer experience. Installation of the designated stop signs started in October 2016 and will be completed this month. Each stop location is clearly marked with signage indicating the routes served by that stop and a bus stop number to identify the location.
There will be a 30-day grace period starting Friday, March 3 to allow customers to adjust to the new stop locations. Starting Monday, April 3, buses will only pick-up and drop-off at designated stop locations.
At the same time, Transpo will make several minor route adjustments in response to the new two-streetsin downtown South Bend. The adjustments will provide more evenly distributed coverage throughout the downtown area.
Transpo will provide an overview of both the designated stops and route adjustments at the following public information sessions:
